I have a couple of Firebees myself. You'd connect the power (flying lines) to the ends of the bar, and the brakes would connect to a line that goes through the centre of the bar to your harness.

Firebees like to have fairly slack brake lines, otherwise they can stop it getting to the top of the wind window (power rings help with this - search the forum for "power rings"). The lines should have a definate bow in them when the brakes are off, but should give a reaction by the kite after an inch or so of moevement. It's best to play around with the line lengths until you find a happy medium.

You can even fly on two lines only, and not have brakes, although this means tying the brakes in with the main line connection, so you'd have no brakes, and would have to launch and land at the edge of the window. You also wouldn't have to safety advantages brakes give you ie: being able to bring the kite down quickly should the need arise, so I wouldn't really recommend it, unless you just wanted to try it in a light wind.

Saying that though, you can still use a harness with handles, so it takes the strain, but you still get the extra control handles give you. The handles should have a small line coming out the back near the top (known as a "pig-tail"), you connect a strop to this, which connects to your harness, allowing you to still use handles. I've tried it on a bar a couple of times, but much prefer handles.

You just need to always keep that bit of strength in reserve to be able to pull the kite in to unhook from the harness should you need to.

Firebees aren't the most stable of kites, especially in gusty wind, so you'll probably find you have more control over it sticking with handles too.
