Not the one at the top of the forum, the main one on Kitezone. Has everyone abandoned it, everytime I've looked in lately, there's been no-one there?
There used to be someone in most nights.

Think most have absconded to the 'other' chat site.
Not much I can do about that. Tried to make a scheduled chat evenings, but I guess peeps were too busy watching soaps or reality TV. Like I posted in another thread, the site is not being used as much as it used to, maybe because I've not been keeping it up to date due to work commitments. Maybe I'll do one last Competition, the prize being kitezone itself, what do you think?...LOL Regards Bill |

I for one have never used the Chat room, so I cant comment on that. Thats just a personal thing. However, I have been watching the various posts relating to how often the site is being used, new posts and such like, and I have to say I don't necessarily agree with the general consensus.
As a new site, attention was bound to be much higher. Especially regarding the forum - an empty space fills quite quickly. I have found exactly the same thing with my own web site/forum. But to my mind, KiteZone is, and always has been, a resource. As more and more posts have covered more and more subjects, you should now be at the point where a new user can come onto the site, do a quick search, and find the answer to his or her question, without ever having to post - be it the main site or the forum. I cant speak for everyone, but I visit the forum a couple of times a day usually, to read through any new posts. I dont have so many questions to post myself, as I'm a reasonably experienced kiter these days, but I'll always respond to anothers request for help if I have something useful to contribute. I'm sure most other members do the same. So, in my opinion, there's nothing to worry about. If you created KiteZone as a resource - you did it and did it well. It provides a wealth of information for new flyers and an open forum for the more experienced with questions. I think it should definately stay up for many years to come, although thats easy for me to say as I dont pay your EZboards fees ! If however you wanted a chat room you'd be better of creating one in IRC - and it's free ! Hope that opinion is helpful ! |

Re: Chat Room | ||

I heard a few people say they'd been going to the 'other one' Bill. I had a look in the other night, and had a weird experience that I won't go into on here. Suffice to say, I don't think I'll go there again.
I prefer Kitezone Chat anyway, seem a good crowd and more my age group. I agree with what Pappa says though, as a resource it's good, be a shame to pull the plug, and like he says once lots of subjects have been covered this MAY slow down. Although regarding searching older posts that may not be alwaya possible, as I think they're deleted after so long aren't they? Maybe be good to leave older posts (or ones with info in rather than just chat), if it doesn't take any server costs to do it. There's also the cost of server space I guess too, no-one can expect you to keep it going out of your own pocket. I wonder if a move to free ISP webspace is possible for the site, if it's not too big if you want to keep it going. There's also free forums available at the likes of Network 54 and others if you wanted to move the forum to a free forum. You may have already looked at these in the past, I don't know. |

Thanks guys, your comments are much appreciated.
The Forum is on self funding at the moment due to the adverts at the top of the forum. Every day they run the forum gets credited with an extra day. So the funding for this forum is no needed. The costs are the webspace the site sits on. I have looked around and the provider is the best for the money they ask as I get all the server backend support you could shake a stick at. I'll keep it going for now and maybe when the weather gets good we will get some more meet-up reports which should generate some more interest. Regards Bill |

reasons: 1. the site is great its just going through a quiet patch and should pick up when the weather does. 2. the main site is great and when i first started the guides helped me out alot. 3. the ppl here are all kind and help out with all our questions. 4. i have met alot of ppl throught the chat bitty and we still talk. 5. alot of newbies will lose a good bit of help. but mainly it is just a great site and a great help yo bigginers and great kiters it supplies great info with kind and honest opinions. so plese Bill and Joann please dont close the site |

Good to see the chat room back in use earlier this evening, ten people in there at one point, the chat was starting to struggle under the strain...lol
Have to make a more regular thing of it again like we used to. I usually look in around 7-8pm. |

I come on this site quite alot but theres no one in the chat room. Its a shame no one goes in it enough. I think more people should come on the chat. I look in the chat quite often.
